Updates for Metro Toronto Skating Academy

Update #1 - May 8.

Good day skaters and parents,

We now start one week earlier July 9, 2007 the school now runs 8 weeks until August 30.

We have added a new group called Glider Plus, designed for skaters on badge 5, 6 and 7 wanting to learn figure skating. Must have badge 4 to sign up for this and is 4-1 ratio.

We are still awaiting Skate Canada Sanction, will inform you as soon as I know. For now, no news is good news.

Private Lessons:

Some of you will have a club coach for private lessons who may not be teaching this summer at MTSA. If you would like private lessons with one of our coaches, please submit a request and we will do our best to find a coach for you. We do ask that you inform your club coach that you will be taking private lessons from one of our coaches for the summer only and return to them upon the regular skating season.

Private Lessons will be taught during warm up and game time as most coaches will be busy during lesson and show practice.

Showcase:

There will be 3 showcases this summer: July 26, Seasons, August 16, The Galaxy and Beyond, August 30, All Time TV Favourites. Mark your calendars!

It is suggested that you sign up for the week before as well as the week of the Showcase to put on an outstanding show for all to enjoy!

Rewards will be given out at the end of the Showcase. If you are only doing one week, your skater will receive their reward at the end of the week.

Questions & Answers

1. Why should I skate in the summer time?

First of all, skating in the summer is a great way to enjoy physical activity in a cool arena after a long hot day of camp or work. It is also the beginning of a new training season for all skaters. Its a good time to come to the rink after a busy season of school, after school activities & play dates to get focused on a season which brings new goals. The beginning of the training season for skaters should be July or August, but we usually start back when all other activities have started. This way, you'll get a head start on the game and competitive season.

2. What equipment do I need?

You need a well fitted and sharpened pair of skates, helmet, gloves or mittens and a sweater and pair of pants. You shouldn't have skates or helmets too big in hopes of growing in to them. It's not as cold in the rink in the summer months so need to layer up. We have everything else!

3. Who is the skating program for?

We are an academy, which means we teach all disciplines of ice skating, to all ages and all levels. Men, women, boys, girls, pre-schoolers, seniors, children and adults. We train figure skaters, hockey players and just recreational skaters. We even have coaches who still come out to skate to keep their edge! We've designed our learn to skate so that kids and parents can all do an activity at the same time, something that rarely happens in our busy schedules. Drop in and check us out!
